Volunteer at our House

Volunteers are the heart of our House. At our House, families find an inviting and caring home where they can receive strength and encouragement from others who are also going through difficult times.

The volunteers serve in many ways, helping to make our House a comfortable and supportive place for the families. Volunteers of all ages serve more than 6,000 annually at our House. Whether you give one hour or one day, every minute makes a lasting impact on our families.

Helping Hands Service Days

For folks who are looking to serve with a group or organization, a Helping Hands Service Day is wonderful way to lend a hand. From yard work to spring cleaning, teams of 5 or less work together for 3 hours to get the job done. Have a group that might be interested? Please call the House to schedule or to get more information.

Take a Shift

Volunteers staff our House from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. We have three different shifts of volunteers:

  • 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.
  • 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and are responsible to volunteer as scheduled. Volunteer duties are varied — depending on the day of the week, time of day, occupancy rate and number of families. Interested in volunteering? Please stop by the House to fill out an application. If you have other quesitons, please give us a call.

Volunteer tasks include:

  • Greet and welcome families and visitors to the House
  • Register families into our House
  • Answer phone calls
  • Handle calls from hospital personnel, families and visitors
  • Assist with mailings
  • Write ‘Thank You’ letters to donors
  • Assist with clerical or data entry work
  • Help keep kitchen and public areas well organized
  • Assist volunteer groups with the evening meal preparation and cleanup
  • Basic household chores

Additional volunteering opportunities include:

  • Raising money through social media, encouraging friends and family to participate.
  • Collecting and donating pop cans.
  • Choosing a day or week you'd like to donate a meal for our House families. (You can either purchase the groceries for that meal or order from a local restaurant)
  • Sorting and/or returning pop cans to local stores (our community is generous with pop can donations).
Laurie Haskell

I have been volunteering at the House since 2018 writing letters, entering data, helping with household tasks and special event projects. I look forward to my volunteer shift because I see the impact and how it benefits families every day.
